Morocco

Morocco
, officially the Kingdom of Morocco, is bordered by the Atlantic Ocean to the west, and the Straits of Gibraltar and Mediterranean to the north.

It has a constitutional monarchy, the current sovereign being Mohammed VI.

Morocco comprises sixteen regions, each having at its head a wali as well as a regional Assembly, representing « live forces » in the area. These regions have local community status, the area of Tangiers- Tetouan being number 01.

Morocco, a tourist region in the process of significant growth, welcomed some 7.45 million tourists in 2007, this representing an increase of more than 11% compared with 2006, well above the global average.

The town of Marrakech is Morocco’s premier tourist location ahead of Agadir, although the Mediterranean coast is currently in the midst of an even greater expansion by dint of its proximity to Europe and its more benign climate.

As a new, prominent tourist destination, Morocco is currently benefitting from such factors as:

  • Significant political and institutional stability.
  • A policy of structural reform and liberalisation of the economy.
  • An educated population and a high level of technical training.
  • The geographical proximity of Europe.
